I’m not addressing this to anyone in particular. You’ll know if it’s for you, and likewise you’ll know if it’s not.

There’s been an awful lot of poisonous posturing and point scoring going on around here lately – and none of it to do with the Grateful Dead. Disputes and vendettas that have to do with – well what exactly? As Mr Shakespeare had it

“…it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”

So seriously, what is the point? I’d really like to know. What do you get from your activities? Do you have a goal? Are you hoping that you might get a little respect? Your methodology verges on the bizarre if that’s the case.

Is it the fact that you can reach out your electronic fingers to prod and poke without fear of consequences or being held to account because you can hide safely behind a mask of anonymity? Is it the same sort of kick you got from pulling the wings off flies? Do you really get satisfaction from that exercise of meaningless power? It seems a shallow, sad sort of satisfaction to me – but maybe it’s good enough for you. If that’s the case you have my sympathy.

Come on, let’s see what’s ticking in your tin man’s heart. Any kind of reasonable response will get the same back from me. Insults and the usual puerile attempts at provocation will be met by silence.

Nice to see some sanity still exists in this forum. "What's the point", a most excellent question Rob. But I guess creating & responding to this thread just adds more fuel. Glad there are other GD forums available where the bull shit that goes on here isn't tolerated.

Still fighting the good fight, I see. My hat's off to you- you're a more patient man than me, Rob. I still weigh in occasionally but the endless shit-flinging and posting under infinite aliases- not to mention the frequently hysterical overreactions to both - really has taken quite a toll on this place. As elbow notes, upon closer inspection many of the longer threads turn out to be nothing more than 2 or 3 interesting posts that then somehow give birth to twenty lines of mind-boggling dullness. Still, I suppose something keeps me stopping by here occasionally.

I'll be suprised if you get anything remotely resembling a serious response.

Excellent post, Rob, and I think Elbow nailed the reasons behind the childish behavior that has dominated the forum for too long. I find it interesting that the "child" or "children" have no response. I'm sure I'm not the only one that sits on the sidelines ignoring the rubbish and gleaning all that is golden from this forumn. It's poeple like you that allow me to keep the faith around here.

Rock on!

Hi Rob, thanks for trying to clear things up a little, it would be nice to get things back to normal! I still enjoy and appreciate many posts and threads by many of you all here, still a lot to learn, to find out, to think about..., even though it's a little hard at times to find my way through lots of stuff, but there are still gems of posts here! Thank you to everybody who puts in his/her energy to make this a good place.

Rob,

I compare some of these posts like the cocount chocolate in a box of candy. Dont know what it is at first and bite into it. I find out it's the horrible coconut one and i immediately throw into the trash, then move onto the good stuff. Much like these posts, they are annoying but not the end of the world. take a sample, if it's idiotic discard and don't respond. there are many "truffles" in the forum bunch.

Doing OK Rob, and you? Looks kind of like soap operass around here... you can miss years and still the same old thing when you get back. How's things in Jolly Ole'? Not sure when I'll be back regularly, but I'll keep checking in now & then...

PS. the Baby is doing great! Learned how to laugh last week... And puppy Daisy had her 1st experience sipping beer (just a little) last night for her 1st birthday... Was quite entertaining!

Well, well, well...here we have an interesting and sincere set of posts by a number of disgruntled regulars, and that's nice to see. Missed you at the completely off topic and inane "who do you picture thread" Rob, but one thing I noticed therein was that in some situations, everyone here can interact and exchange jokes without getting completely out of hand (not that that thread should be held up as what this place should be about, but it was a distraction from the other stuff).

So, I suppose my point is that I still find entertainment here on a regular basis, still meet new folks and old friends (though those that are less frequently posting are sorely missed).

Keep coming around when you can--numbers count.

P.S. I apologize for being off topic, hijacking, but I had so much fun with the 'who do you picture' I had to add these that I missed.

Greetings Boltslinger!

I didn’t really know what sort of response I’d get with this thread – but I have to say that the reaction has been gratifying and heartwarming. It’s good to know that there are still quite a number of people who care. There’s a message there to a few scapegraces that they are still pretty far from taking over our asylum. I’m all for being inane and off topic – no way I could deny that! – but isn’t it good to know that some of us can get there without acting like semi-house trained polecats?

Excelsior!

barring a very few number of people here (yourself included), this forum has become a total joke. i thank god every day that a certain someone led me (and others) to a much more peaceful and "sane" place.

now, that's not to say i dont get entertainment here either. however, that entertainment has unfortunately simply boiled down to trying to aggravate the multi-poster and other morons/losers who have recently joined the forum. i suppose that makes it that i have stooped to their level, but sometimes its fun to see how the "other half" lives.

plus, im basically just an asshole anyway :)

oh, and lest i forget - i'm a pathetic hopeless loser who happens to smoke cigaretts.

Brendan Byrne arena, I think this is the first time I've ever heard this show and I'm really liking it. last day of a 3 day stay and each looks like it has a good setlist. Listening on GDradio and it is a fine recording.

Rob,

I have 3 kids and their interactions are quite similar to what I observe here. The middle one instigates the oldest because he can and the youngest does the same to the middle because she can. They do it because they can get a response. I suspect that some people never grow out of the "thrill" of being able to set someone off. Take a look at the hmmm post. Rich posts an interesting observation and gets two responses almost immediately. One is legit (okay it was mine so i may be biased) and one is name calling. He responds to the name calling. As long as people find it more compelling to respond to name calling instead of legit posts then people who get off on the name calling are rewarded and will come back for more.

Why someone over 8 years old still finds this rewarding is beyond me. I also curious and hope you get a serious response.

Gee, Rob, if you have a problem with me, I hope that you would call me out directly; however, you have managed to profile me perfectly: as a young child, I was that kid on the playground constantly stealing others' toys, mercilessly tormenting them about their early-onset acne or their "No, I really do love Donna" t-shirt. Well, now that I was forced to leave that venue (I guess they draw the line at making you repeat grades - or "levels" for our non-US friends - at 8 times, something about a 16 year old in a 3rd grade class being distracting)I had to find a new outlet for my need to provoke defensive responses from lesser beings. Finding this place was a true blessing as there are many folks who are apparently overly sensitive about this band and their bathing habits. It has been a true Nirvana for me and some of my close friends. But your disturbingly accurate portrait of me has forced me to look at myself in the mirror, and what I saw disgusted me. As a result I have now bathed and pledge that I will refrain from overly-agressive actions here. I guess I owe you a debt of gratitude for helping me see the error of my ways, you offal-munching reprobate.

Hey, change comes slowly. I'll get there eventually.

ADDENDUM: It appears that the UK still has some laws on the books that may directly affect our Scottish friend:

In Scotland, if someone knocks on your door and requires the use of your toilet, you must let them enter
-next time you're back in the homeland Rob, I'm going out for an extra spicy Mexican dinner and then coming over to your house; it won't be pretty.

But, my favorite, is this:
In the city of York it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.
-handy safety tip there Rob, wouldn't want anything bad to befall you.
